Job DescriptionReporting to the VP - NANA Natural Resources, the
Senior Geologist position is responsible for leading exploration
programs on the NANA Red Dog lease. The successful candidate will
be a high-caliber geoscientist with in-depth technical knowledge of
ore-forming systems, experience in the design and execution of
successful exploration programs, and a strong drive to create value
through exploration discovery success. The position will work in
close collaboration with the exploration team at Teck.*Remote work
option available for candidates living outside of Anchorage and in

Dog district has a nearly 50-year history of exploration resulting
in multiple discoveries and making Red Dog the richest zinc
district in the world. The Red Dog NANA lease portion of the
district comprises a large, relatively unexplored search space that
remains prospective for additional zinc-lead
discoveries.Responsibilities
- Plan and manage exploration programs on the NANA Red Dog lease,
including geological, geophysical and geochemical data acquisition
and drilling.
- Develop an in-depth understanding of the ore-forming systems in
the district and apply this understanding to inform and guide
exploration targeting.
- Calibrate and test conventional and innovative exploration
tools and methodologies at Red Dog before applying them to district
exploration.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of mineral
system models, regional targeting frameworks, and innovative
exploration tools and practices.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of NANA's
multi-year exploration strategy on the NANA Red Dog lease.
- Effectively communicate within the corporation, company
partners and other stakeholders.
- Ensure that historical and new geoscience data is properly
stored and managed.
- Generate work reports and technical geoscience reports as
required.
- Stay current with the latest developments in economic geology
research and government geoscience initiatives related to mineral
exploration.
- Integrate and develop a strong working relationship with the
Teck Exploration team on site and work as a collaborative
team.
- Coordinate with the Teck Exploration team with program
planning, logistics and effective resource allocation to execute
field programs based on district priorities.
- Other duties that are pertinent to the department or unit's
success may also be assigned.Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Geology, Earth Sciences or equivalent. An
MSc or PhD in Economic Geology, or a related field, would be an
advantage.
- 10+ years of experience in exploration or mining with strong
technical geoscience knowledge.
- Pro-active, attentive to detail with a results-oriented
discovery mentality.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record to be
eligible under NANA's vehicle insurance policy.
- First Aid Training is required; Wilderness First Aid training
is an additional asset.
- Safety-oriented, with a focus on taking care of yourself and
those around you.
- Strong leadership skills.
- Strong multi-commodity geoscience evaluation and targeting
background, developed from substantive early to advanced stage
exploration and development experience across diverse deposit
styles and geographies.
- A background in structural geology and base metals is required.
Specific experience in shale-hosted massive sulfide (SHMS, or
SEDEX) systems is an advantage.
- Advanced understanding of the geological processes driving
mineralizing systems and the formation of mineral deposits,
discovery exploration value drivers and strategies across a range
of commodities.
- Advanced generative exploration and reconnaissance skills
required, and the ability to balance technical, commercial, and
operational and risk elements based on incomplete and/or ambiguous
information.
- Specialized skills in core logging and mapping, and the
interpretation and integration of complex and often fragmented
datasets including lithological, alteration, mineralogy,
structural, geochemical, geophysical, remote sensing and
geochronological data.
- Management of field programs including drill testing of
exploration targets.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team
environment.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the
ability to present ideas clearly.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment managing
multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and exceptional organizational
skills.
- Advanced and relevant experience using a range of software
platforms, such as ArcGIS, Leapfrog, and ioGAS, to analyze and
model geoscience data in 2D and 3D.
- Eligibility to work in the United States is required.Working
Conditions and Physical RequirementsWeather: Occasionally exposed
to moderate/harsh weather conditions; requires work to be done both
inside and outside.Noise level: The noise level in the work
environment is usually moderate, but the employee may be exposed to
varying levels of noise at times when in the field or at the Red
Dog Mine.Description of environment: Incumbent must be able to work
in less-than-ideal offices, facilities, or situations. In the
field, the employee will be required to walk over uneven terrain,
for periods up to an hour or longer, and may be exposed to loud
machinery. The overnight accommodations in villages are limited,
and the employee may be required to sleep on the floor or cot in a
local school and bring their own provisions for meals.Physical
requirements: Employee is required to occasionally lift and/or move
up to 35 lbs. Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use
hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or
crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.Travel:
Up to 40% of the time. Employee may travel to remote areas, such as
the Red Dog Mine or in the NANA Region and may be required to use
alternative modes of transportation, including but not limited to
snow machines, boats, helicopters, small airplanes and
