Job Description:
The Department of Corrections, Division of Institutions, is
recruiting for a Maintenance Specialist,
Building/Facility/Construction, Foreman, for the Goose Creek
Correctional Complex (GCCC), located in Mackenzie Point,
Alaska.

What you will be doing:
The Maintenance Foreman is responsible for supervising a skilled
maintenance crew of 6 Maintenance Specialists, 3 Maintenance
Generalists and 1 Automotive Mechanic at GCCC. The incumbent is a
working foreman who will:Receive work orders for repair, prioritize
and assign the workload, and disseminate information
Set schedules, directly review the work of the maintenance
personnel, and identify training needs
Develop plans for preventative maintenance (PM) programs and
implement regular PM schedules
Determine needs for maintenance parts, fixtures, motors, etc. and
submit quotes and repair requests to the Administrative Officer

The working environment you can expect:
Goose Creek Correctional Center is a minimum/medium custody
facility that houses up to 1500 inmates and employs over 350 staff.
You will be working with other staff and inmates daily.
Who we are looking for:
We are interested in candidates who possess some or all of the
following position specific competencies:Mechanical: Knowledge of
machines and tools, including their designs, uses, benefits,
repair, and maintenance.
Safety Engineering: Knowledge of the concepts, principles,
theories, and methods to identify, control, mitigate, and eliminate
safety hazards in the design and use of facilities, equipment,
operations, and work processes.
Planning and Evaluating: Organizes work, sets priorities, and
determines resource requirements; determines short- or long-term
goals and strategies to achieve them; coordinates with other
organizations or parts of the organization to accomplish goals;
monitors progress and evaluates outcomes.
Minimum Qualifications
This job class is part of a series of competency-based class
specifications created for career areas within the Labor, Trades,
and Crafts Unit. The class specification identifies the levels of
work and wage grades within the career area, the core and specific
competencies of the career area, required work behaviors,

RECRUITMENT DIFFICULTIES
Starting salary may be approved up to Step C-$37.86, if criteria
are met.

Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used
to meet the minimum qualifications listed above. If utilizing this
education, you must show that the education credentials have been
submitted to a private organization that specializes in the
interpretation of foreign educational credentials and that such
education has been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained
in conventional U.S. education programs; or an accredited U.S.
post-secondary institution reports the other institution as one
whose transcript is given full value, or full value is given in
subject areas applicable to the curricula at the post-secondary
institution. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence
when applying.

If using work experience not already documented in your

PREA NOTIFICATION
The Department of Corrections follows and maintains federal and
state requirements standards including, but not limited to, Prison
Rape Elimination Act (PREA) standards which apply to all public and
private institutions that house adult or juvenile offenders. PREA
standards preclude the department from hiring or promoting anyone
who has engaged in, or been convicted of any conduct which would
violate PREA standards related to sexual assault including:
Sexual abuse in a prison, jail, lockup, community confinement
facility, juvenile facility, or other institutions.
Convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in

force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable
to consent or refuse; or
Has been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in
the activity described above.
CRIMINAL HISTORY CHECKS/APSIN/ACOMS
Please be aware - this position requires the use of the Alaska
Public Safety Information Network (APSIN)/Alaska Corrections
Offender Management System (ACOMS). A security clearance issued by
the Department of Public Safety (DPS) is necessary to use
APSIN/ACOMS. DPS will deny security clearance for any applicant who
has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor in this state or
another jurisdiction, or who may be a fugitive from justice.
Additionally, security clearance will be withdrawn if DPS discovers
that material information was falsified or omitted at the time of
the initial application for security clearance.
FINGERPRINT NOTICE
All Department of Corrections employees are required to be
fingerprinted. The successful candidate must pass a criminal
history check.
DRIVER'S LICENSE REQUIREMENT
Applicants must possess a valid driver's license. Proof of
licensure will be required prior to reporting to duty.
